| Loss Angeles Series
Artist Statement The Loss Angeles series was produced in response to the disappearance of numerous landmarks and attractions that previously were associated with the City and its surrounding region. New arrivals to the area may not be aware of them, but long-time residents are and many are sad that they’re no longer here. I suppose it’s all about loss and how it affects you. One of the losses of the Los Angeles area is a once-thriving ceramic industry. From the 30s to the 60s, it helped define the lifestyle here and sadly little is left except the myriad artifacts (now collectible) to remind us of it. In each piece in the series, a specific example of California Pottery has been added as a marker for the landmark or attraction being memorialized. In the case of TORCH SONG, for the Pan Pacific Auditorium, a pan figurine by Pacific Clay Products rests on a shelf attached to a stark black background, reminding us that this iconic Art Moderne building was torched. |
